SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS - Children |

The Family Resource Counseling Center prides itself on being a resource for the community, located in West Los Angeles, adjacent to Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. Services are provided for infants, children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. There are also a variety of educational and support groups offered, including infant massage, parenting of children & adolescents, post-partum support, drug and alcohol reintegration, body image and eating disorders. We provide therapeutic interventions though individual work with children while including parents or the entire family when this is deemed best for the overall goals of treatment. Other services include testing and assessments. An on-site psychiatrist is available by appointment. Please look at our entire website for more information about our comprehensive list of psychotherapeutic services. Social Skills Groups assist children with the additional practice they may need in learning appropriate social skills within a well-structured environment. Usually a teacher or other school official will suggest to a parent that their child attend a social skills group, and often a parent may make this decision based on their own observations and interactions with their child. A child who is receiving services for Autism, Asperger’s, motor skill difficulties, mental retardation, learning disorders, emotional disturbances like anxiety or depression, behavioral difficulties, and a variety of other special needs, may be referred to social skills groups in conjunction with other services. On the other hand, some children may need social skill practice because they have difficulties with peers in the classroom, feel isolated, act inappropriately, or are just unable to make friends.
