PRE NATAL

The Family Resource Counseling Center offers many services for pregnant woman, expectant parents, New Father Support, Postpartum Depression Support, Infant Massage Classes and a variety of other services. The Family Resource Counseling Center is a private practice therapy office located in West Los Angeles, near Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. We offer a variety of individual and group services for infants, children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing mood disorders. Prenatal care is medical attention given to the expectant mother and her developing baby. It involves the mother caring for herself by following her health care provider’s advice (ob-gyn), practicing good nutrition, getting plenty of rest, exercising sensibly, and avoiding things that could harm her or her baby. It is important to visit a health care provider as soon as a woman suspects she is pregnant because research has shown that women who see a healthcare provider during pregnancy deliver healthier babies and are less likely to deliver prematurely. Children of mothers who do not receive prenatal care are three times more likely to have low birth weight and five times more likely to die.

Prenatal visits offer women the opportunity to learn more about pregnancy, be monitored for any preexisting medical conditions that may affect the health of the mother or the baby, be tested for possible problems with the fetus and be referred for other important services such as childbirth education classes or support groups. At each visit the doctor will examine blood pressure, urine samples, circumference of the abdomen, weight gain, position of the fetus and fetal heartbeat. Such variables are going to be closely followed during the course of pregnancy.

It is also important that a woman care for herself emotionally while she is expecting. This may mean meeting with a therapist individually or perhaps as a couple, as there may be numerous issues to address together. For a woman who would like to get pregnant and is having difficulties with reproduction and fertility, this can also carry a variety of strong emotions. Again, therapeutic help is recommended as extra support and a nurturing environment may be necessary.
