The Family Resource Counseling Center prides itself on being a resource for the community, located in West Los Angeles, adjacent to Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. Services are provided for infants, children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. There are also a variety of educational and support groups offered, including infant massage, parenting of children & adolescents, post-partum support, drug and alcohol recovery for teens, body image and eating disorders. We feel strongly about utilizing a community approach to healthy development. If permitted, we will work in collaboration with a doctor to ensure everyone is working with the similar goals in mind. Therapy is a great service to address many issues that can not be individually addressed in depth by your doctor, including healthy parenting skills, individual questions about parenting, support from other parents, testing & assessment, and working with an entire family to provide specific goals and interventions. Pediatricians and family doctors play a key role in the family. This is most likely someone who will get to know you and your family really well, so choose wisely. You should feel comfortable interviewing doctors until you find the one that feels right for you. Each family member should feel safe with their pediatrician or family doctor and that he/she listens to you. Your doctor should be knowledgeable and available. You will want to ensure there is a similar mindset when it comes to parenting issues you feel strongly about like eating or medicine. Medical insurance can be an important issue. It is a good practice to ask friends, neighbors, and other parents about the specific qualifications of their family doctors and pediatricians in the area. This is a great way to get a more accurate depiction of what an experience may be like working with a particular doctor.
