Divorce and separation are challenging for everyone involved. Making the decision to divorce is not an easy one. People are often surprised at how overwhelmed they feel. They may be uncertain how to proceed and wonder how to cope. It is not uncommon to for them to feel anxious, depressed, angry and confused, sometimes all at the same time. Because it is vital when considering divorce to consider the best interests for yourself and your family, it is important to have experienced and objective help.  Whether the divorce is amicable or not, a person divorcing will have many questions and be looking for answers.

It is not uncommon to feel confused about important questions and concerns, such as: What is the best way to tell your children? How will you heal from this loss or betrayal? Have you protected yourself legally? How do you separate? What are your rights and what are you entitled to? Who will have legal custody? How about physical custody? Do you know the difference? Have you done everything you could to save the marriage? Is there any way to make the separation more amicable? What is best for the kids? Who can you lean on for support?

When a family is in crisis and going through the process of divorce, people make the mistake of reacting quickly and then later regretting their hasty decisions. In the heat of the moment, they may lash out, saying something or doing something with irreversible consequences and long-lasting effects. Also, finding support and guidance may be challenging as friends and family lose their ability to be objective and may encourage poor choices. At the Family Resource Counseling Center, it is our goal to be objective, yet supportive in assisting our clients to make this transition as smoothly as possible.   We provide individual, couples and family counseling to meet the needs of each family and their unique concerns.
