The Family Resource Counseling Center (FRCC) prides itself on being a resource in the West Los Angeles area, adjacent to Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. It is a private practice therapy office providing services for infants, children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. A variety of support and educational groups are available as well as testing and assessment. At FRCC, we provide counseling for issues of abuse and trauma, individually or in a group or family setting. We provide links below to assist you in gathering support and information.
Drug and Alcohol use and abuse is common in junior high and high school when many young people are faced with peer pressure and/or social pressure that can often lead to experimentation with drugs or alcohol. According to statistics, nearly seventy-five percent of high school aged children have experimented with one or more types of drugs or alcohol. Common drugs of abuse in West Los Angeles and the Santa Monica area schools are marijuana, ecstacy, heroin, cocaine, crystal, crystal meth, ice, crank, crack, speed, inhalants, glue, paint and even insect repellant. Prescription drugs such as Oxycontin, Ritalin, Aderol, Xanax and other anti-anxiety medication are also commonly abused and can easily lead to addiction. Parents and educators may be misled if they believe a child is suffering from an addiction that is fed by drug dealers and negative peer groups. The reality of addiction is that it can begin at home and often comes from families where one or both parents are also struggling with alcoholism or addiction. Surprisingly, the family liquor or medicine cabinet is most often the place where children “score” their drugs or alcohol during the early stages of abuse or addiction.
The Family Resource Counseling Center works to help children, preteens, teenagers and their families recover from, and cope with, the devastating effects of alcohol and drug addiction. The therapists at the counseling center are trained in intervention and therapy techniques that help to arrest drug and alcohol addiction. In addition to helping children and teenagers transition from addiction to recovery and sober living, the Family Resource Counseling Center can help families as their children transition from recovery centers, hospitals, rehabs or wilderness programs back into school and the family home. The center offers group counseling aimed at helping children and teens in recovery as they learn to apply and utilize the skills that they learn in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Cocaine Anonymous, (CA), Marijuana Anonymous (MA) , Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and other 12-step programs. This recovery group will also help clients and their families learn to explore and express difficult feelings and emotions that are common in early sobriety and recovery.
